EQUAL OPPORTUNITY COMMITTEE (SC&ST CELL)

As per the provisions laid down by the scheduled caste and the scheduled tribes by the Constitution of India under the provision of Article (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, Act No. 33 of 1989, Dated 11/09/1989 & the Notification No. GSR – 316 by Ministry of Welfare, New Delhi dated 31/03/1995. Scheduled Caste constitutes about 15% and Scheduled tribes constitute about 7.5% of the total population of the country. The academic administration of the college of decentralized and transparency is maintained by constituting SC-ST committees with senior faculty members. Frequency of the Meeting: Once in year, as and when required.

Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Creating awareness about the schemes for the welfare of SC/ST community and guide the students in availing the same.
  2. Effective updating and implementing of the policy & programs /schemes of the state and central Govt. for SC/ST.
  3. The SC/ST  Committee conducts awareness campaign, workshops and training sessions to raise awareness about  issues related to caste discrimination, social exclusion, and affirmative action policies, It promotes sensitivity, understanding, and solidarity, among students, faculty, and staff towards SC/ST Communities.
  4. To identify problems related to scholarships and personal grievances.
  5. Assist in maintaining cordial relationship among the students.
  6. Encourage students to participate in college/ department level activities.
  7. To Provide equal opportunity to differently abled to faculty, non-teaching staff and students.

Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC)

An Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) is an institutional body that promotes inclusivity, diversity, and non-discrimination in educational institutions, workplaces, or government organizations. Its primary objective is to ensure that all individuals, regardless of gender, caste, disability, economic background, or any other factor, have equal access to opportunities.

Functions of an Equal Opportunity Cell

  1. Preventing Discrimination – Ensures that no individual faces discrimination based on caste, gender, disability, or socio-economic status.
  2. Grievance Redressal – Addresses complaints related to bias, harassment, or unfair treatment.
  3. Awareness Programs – Conducts workshops, seminars, and training sessions on inclusivity and equal rights.
  4. Support for Underprivileged Groups – Provides academic and financial support to students or employees from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  5. Implementation of Government Policies – Ensures compliance with policies related to reservation, disability rights, and social justice.
  6. Accessibility Enhancement – Works towards making institutions more inclusive for persons with disabilities (e.g., ramps, assistive technologies).
  7. Career and Counselling Support – Helps marginalized individuals access career opportunities and psychological counseling.

EOC in Educational Institutions

Many universities and colleges (especially in India) have an Equal Opportunity Cell to support students from SC/ST/OBC backgrounds, persons with disabilities (PwD), and economically weaker sections.
