Anti-Ragging Committee – Osmania University
Osmania University, like all educational institutions in India, strictly follows the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines to prevent ragging on campus. The Anti-Ragging Committee is responsible for ensuring a safe and harassment-free environment for students.
Roles & Responsibilities of the Anti-Ragging Committee
- Preventing Ragging – Ensuring that no student is subjected to physical or mental harassment.
- Spreading Awareness – Conducting orientation programs and displaying anti-ragging posters.
- Strict Monitoring – Surveillance in hostels, classrooms, and campus areas.
- Handling Complaints – Addressing complaints of ragging swiftly and fairly.
- Taking Disciplinary Action – Punishing those found guilty as per university and legal norms.
Composition of the Anti-Ragging Committee
- Chairperson: Vice-Chancellor or Principal
- Members: Faculty, administrative staff, student representatives, and legal advisors
- External Members: Police officials, media representatives, and NGO members
Punishments for Ragging
As per UGC regulations, students found guilty of ragging may face:
- Suspension or expulsion from the university
- Cancellation of admission
- FIR (First Information Report) with the police
- Financial penalties or legal action
